The Challenge: A Dated House With Untapped Potential

This chalet-style property had reached the point familiar to many homeowners: a house that no longer reflected how its owners wanted to live, nor made the most of its plot. Rather than a partial update, the clients wanted a complete rethink — a fabulous, beautiful, genuinely sustainable modern home built from the ground up in ambition, even where the original structure remains.

A Project in Motion: A Full Redesign, With Planning Permission Secured

Simon Mack Architecture led a complete redesign of the property, reimagining the chalet-style house as a striking, contemporary home. The new design combines metal and timber in a considered material palette that sits in deliberate contrast to the traditional elements of the original building, not a clash, but a harmonious, balanced composition where old and new inform one another. The scheme has secured planning permission, with construction due to begin shortly.

A Sustainable Home, Built For The Future

Beyond its striking appearance, the redesign has sustainability designed in from the outset, a home intended to perform as well as it looks, built to modern standards of efficiency rather than simply dressed in a contemporary style. As the project moves from planning into construction, this page will be updated to follow its progress from dated chalet to beautiful, sustainable modern home.
